Proposed Recording Studio Designs PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tate

After working in many studios around the world, I realized that I really liked the one room studio design.  It allows for great communication and the artists always feel more comfortable because everyone is in the same space and they don't get that feeling of being like animals in a zoo as they do when they are behind the glass.

I created a one room studio at my last home and you can see how it turned out by CLICKING HERE.  As you can see by a couple of those photos, the space didn't even have an iso booth.  There were times when I would have liked to have had one, but it never got in the way.

With that said, I have added a nice sized iso booth to the first design and I've also added two small "closets" that can be dual-purpose.  They can act as mic-lockers or storage areas and also work as small iso rooms for guitar amps.  I also designed the studio so that the very noisy console power supplies (there are 3 power supplies for the console) would be in a vented closet in the lounge/kitchen area.  Yes, there will be a full bath and a kitchenette area.

Take a look at the first design and then head over to the forums to talk about it.

With the second proposed design, I've made the lounge a bit wider, yet smaller in length, which I think would be more comfortable. The recording space also has a long closet at one end for storage and a place for the console power supplies. The closet, lounge and iso room will have 12 foot ceilings, which means that the vaulted ceiling will create a loft space above each of these rooms.

The recording space itself is 5 feet longer and the acoustic mode of the room is a bit better. As you can see, there is still a line of sight to the console from the iso booth as well. I like this design a bit better as I think it provides a more comfortable space and a better sounding space.
