Tate, if you complete your itemized list of material to build to the studio you could post the items you are hoping to find salvaged. For example: Doors: what sizes and build material (wood, steel), windows or no windows...you get the idea.

Craigslist seems like a great source for things like tile, doors, rugs...you name it really. With specifics, I think we can get a lot of things for free/cheap.

i'm getting a list together of what is needed to dry in the studio. that way we know what to look for. also, be on the lookout for construction framers that would do the dry in.

That sounds good, browsing craigslist I found things like a tub, toilet, and tile for free/really cheap that I'd be willing to pick up and donate.

well, the list is kind of changing. it depends on what the contractor that we decide to have do the dry-in supplies. after i get a contractor picked out, then we'll move forward.

just for a reference, one contractor wants $7,600 to dry-in the studio and that doesn't include the roof trusses, which will be another 1700. we gotta get this number down to $6500 including the trusses!

Okay, I have a list of things that will be needed for the studio. There is obviously more to it than what is here, but it's a start. See what you can find salvaged or for free or cheap.

As you can see, this isn't a cheap endeavor. It's going to be $7500 just to get the building shelled/dry-in.

Sean, a big money saver would be finding an HVAC and duct work cheap. I don't know where your father is with that or if we could find something cheap.

If everything was bought brand new, it would probably be around 22k-28k to build this. Amy and I don't have that kind of cash laying around just for this building, so...let's see if we can get some deals.

I'll e-mail my dad and see if he has the quote done. He was out of town for a week so he had to get caught up at the office this week.

I've got an appox 12"x16" x 12ft long lined steel air duct that I can donate. I was originally planning on getting rid of it, but I think we'll be able to use it at the studio. We'll need a trailer or a full-size pickup to move it though.

good deal.

also, everyone--

with the hurricanes and the stock market, fucking prices for materials has skyrocketed over the last week. more than a 1000 dollars more than they were a week ago for what we need to dry in the studio. keep an eye out for stuff, but we can't get too far ahead now..

things we should keep an eye out for are:

OSB
12' wood studs
Roofing paper - 15lb paper or higher
Roofing shingles - we need 17 square of matching shingles. 3 bundles equals one square. so, 51 bundles!

Are you planning on doubling up the drywall layers? There's a guy in Nashville who has 8 cases of green glue for $135/case. That's about $40 cheaper than if you order it direct.

still not sure as to whether we are going to do two layers of drywall. right now with the market the way it is, we are trying to figure out what to do.

a builder that amy worked for stole quite a bit of money from us and we are going through litigation to get it. this was the money we were going to use to dry in the studio.
