How to structure the organization? NonProfit? LLC? Roles within? 3 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
We need to talk about how we want this organization set up. Nate's friend, Jason, should come and post here and let us know how and what he decided for his own project, which is very similar to ours.

Jason should be quite a resource.

Do we set it up as an limited liability corporation or a non-profit organization? how do we structure "roles" within the organization?

I can't say this is something I have a lot of knowledge about, but I'm not sure how easy or difficult it would be to show that a company is, in fact, a non-profit. I suppose if you stated that any money collected from a recording sessions went to the engineers and if Tate made any money he made went to paying for/off the studio it would work. This seems like something Tate might want to the Small Business Administration about. I know there is one in Murfreesboro, not sure about Mount Juliet.

My friend Jason may be stopping by here to weigh in. I gave him a link to the site. He's been through all this so I'm sure he's got some ideas and insight he can drop on us.

Not since I gave him the link.

Maybe if we came up with specific questions for him, I could ask him via email. It's probably a little overwhelming trying to go back and figure out how/why you did things a certain way years ago. Questions would probably get the ball rolling.

i would like to know what type of organization he set his co-op up as. was it a limited liability corporation (LLC) or a non-profit organization?

how did he structure roles within the organization?

how did he evaluate people's contributions vs their entitlements?

I think they're kind of on a hiatus right now. I didn't get a chance to talk to Jason last week before I left for Philly, but I'm going to try and get in touch with him this week.
DC-FIY's myspace page: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=911664

They used to have a full-fledged domain and site, but I think they've let that expire.
